Art On The Walls

Sedition 2019 showcases the State Library’s little known collections of attention grabbing poster art of the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Produced during the creative tsunami of public art and protest that broke out in Sydney’s underground at the time, these posters plastered the walls of the inner city with thought-provoking political and promotional messages. Highlighting issues close to the hearts of Sydney’s artists and activists of the day through provocative combinations of word and image, these artworks offer us tantalising glimpses into the urban landscape of our recent past.

Paper Tigers – Exhibition

Fri 30 Aug – Sat 12 Oct

National Art School Gallery

A collection of roughly 250 posters, photographs, film and ephemera relating to the cultural revolution that occurred in Sydney in the 1970s. As Faulkner wrote, 'the past is not dead, it's not even past.' The show is full of contemporary references, angry missives and absurdist flights of fancy.
